a prominent person

the Leader said,

“What makes a prominent person ‎outstanding is not ‎merely talent and mental capacity‎, ‎because many individuals have a high mental capacity but it ‎is wasted in them.”‎

The Leader

“If a talented, gifted individual does not take advantage of and use this blessing and if they are lazy, uncaring and negligent, they will definitely not become an outstanding person. An outstanding person is a person who thanks God.”

‎ The great leader of the revolution

There is a time when a student wants to go to study in a country based on his or her intellectual needs or family issues. This is not a problem; I have said many times that there is no problem. The main thing is not to forget that he owes his country and to study and come back. But what is erroneous is immigration.

Imam Khamenei’s Nowruz Message

Imam Khamenei’s Nowruz Message

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

O’ Conqueror of hearts and sights

O’ Planner of night and day

O’ Transformer of power and conditions

Transform our condition to the best of conditions!

This year, Nowruz has coincided with the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Musa ibn Ja’far (God’s greetings be upon him).  Thus, it is appropriate to begin my statements with a recitation of part of the salawat for that great personality: “Oh God, send Your greetings to Musa ibn Ja’far, who is the successor to the righteous, the leader of the pious, the treasury of light and one of prolonged sajdahs, abundant tears and plentiful prayers. Dear God, send Your greetings to his fathers and to his pure, immaculate and infallible children. God’s mercy and blessings be upon him.”

I wish to congratulate all the dear people of Iran on the auspicious Eid ul-Mab’ath and on Eid-e Nowruz. In particular, I would like to congratulate the esteemed and honorable families of martyrs, the disabled war veterans, their patient and diligent family members, and the jihadists in the arena of health – who have performed brilliantly in recent weeks – and all diligent servants of the country who have undertaken part of the task in such difficult circumstances and who are busy rendering services in a sincere, enthusiastic and motivated manner in cities, in villages, on roads, on the borders and in each and every corner of the country. I congratulate all of them: May you have a happy Nowruz!

I also wish to send greetings to the immaculate soul of our magnanimous Imam and the pure souls of the martyrs.

I deem it necessary to express both my congratulations and my condolences to the families of the martyrs of the year 1398: whether the martyrs of defending the holy shrines and the martyrs of defending borders, especially our dear and great martyr – Shahid Soleimani, his companions and Shahid Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and his comrades as well as the martyrs of the Kerman incident, the martyrs of the airplane incident and the martyrs on the path of health.

The latter are people who achieved the high rank of death and martyrdom in the way of God while they were rendering services to patients. I would like to express my condolences to their families and congratulate them on this eid and on the position of their children. I believe that all these incidents will turn out to be to the advantage of the Iranian nation. I will expand on this matter in a moment.

The year 1398 was a tumultuous year for the Iranian nation. It was a year that began with the floods and that ended with the Coronavirus. Throughout the year too, various incidents happened to the country and to some people in the country: incidents like earthquakes, sanctions and the like. The peak of those incidents was the terrorist crime committed by the US, which was the martyrdom of the well-known Sardar of Iran and Islam, Shahid Soleimani. Throughout the year, the people had a large number of difficulties. The year passed like this. Therefore, it was a difficult year.

However, the important point is that as well as such hardships, there were a number of achievements some of which were unprecedented. The Iranian nation shone brightly in the true sense of the word. In the floods which occurred at the beginning of the year, pious and determined people rushed towards flood-stricken provinces, cities and villages in order to help the people there. Our dear people – old and young – created a beautiful scenery by going to the flood-stricken areas. They washed the homes which were covered with mud and filth. They took the furniture out and washed it for the people in those areas. They did something to mitigate the hardships resulting from the flood for the people there. And following the great martyrdom of our dear martyr, the people launched a great movement by showing their presence – tens of millions of people – to the world.

The gatherings that formed in Tehran, Qom, Ahwaz, Isfahan, Mashhad, Tabriz and Kerman were gatherings that are usually not seen in any part of the world with such large numbers and such motives. It was also unique in our own history. Popular presence and enthusiasm and the fact that the people showed what things they are attached to, was very important for the reputation and dignity of the Iranian nation. Regarding the recent disease – the spread of the Coronavirus – the sacrifices made were so dazzling that even foreigners felt obliged to admire them.

Primarily, these acts of sacrifice were made by medical groups, physicians, nurses, assistants, managers and the staff working in hospitals. Alongside these people, there were volunteers from among the people, students, the clergy, Basijis and various individuals who helped the medical staff and who nursed patients. All these phenomena are a source of dignity and reputation. The people rushed to the help of physicians and doctors. There were also support groups, some of which offered their factories and even their houses with the aim of manufacturing the products needed for patients or for the masses of the people- products such as gloves, masks and the like.

And there were public service groups such as the people who engaged in disinfecting streets or the places which are frequented by the people. Or the youth who decided to help the elderly by going to their door and doing their shopping for them. I can also mention the people who prepared goods and gave them to the people for free, including free gloves and masks. And some people helped salesmen and shopkeepers by not asking for rent. They said that the rent could be delayed and other such services rendered by the people.

These are beauties that manifest themselves amidst difficult events. The Iranian nation showed its virtues through these groups and these tasks, some of which I referred to. I genuinely and sincerely thank all the individuals whom I referred to and I want them to know that divine rewards – both worldly and otherworldly – awaits them.

Well, this was a difficult test. The tests of the 1398 were difficult ones, but overcoming and passing through such difficulties with good spirits makes a nation powerful. A nation will not reach anywhere with self-indulgence and simply seeking comfort. It is by confronting the difficulties and keeping one’s morale up in the face of difficulties that a nation will be successful. Thankfully, the Iranian nation has mastered this and it will continue to do so from now on too. This is what gives power and credit to nations.

There is another noteworthy point in the face of these incidents – including natural incidents like floods, earthquakes and the like, the incidents fabricated by foreigners such as sanctions - as they make us pay attention to our weaknesses - and our natural weakness because they help us know that there is no room for arrogance.  We are all weak and vulnerable and the weaknesses that we face in the natural course of events – and the fact that we should know our weaknesses. We should avoid being arrogant and negligent, pay attention to God and ask Him to help: “He who calls anyone other than you will be disappointed. He who asks anyone other than You for help will suffer a loss and he who goes to the door of anyone other than You will be full of want”. These are the prayers of the month of Rajab.  You should only go to the door of the Divine House, if you go to any other house you will return disappointed, if you stretch out your hand to anything other than God, you will return empty-handed.  All causes in existence are Divine causes – He is the Cause of causes.  You should work with these causes, use these causes, but ask the Most High for the results and effects.  This is another point.

As for the year 1399 which is about to begin, first of all, we ask Allah the Exalted to render this year the year of great victories and we ask the Imam of the Age - may our souls be sacrificed for him - who is the captain of this ship, to help his country reach the shore of salvation and to help and support the pious people of Iran. And I would like to say to the Iranian nation that as they confronted various events in a courageous manner and with good morale throughout all these years – not only in the year 1398 – they should confront subsequent events with hope and by keeping up their morale as well and they should rest assured that bitter events will pass: “Verily, with every difficulty there is relief” [The Holy Quran, 94: 6]. Relief will surely await the Iranian nation. There is no doubt about this.

There are some people who think that there is a shortcoming of duties in some organizations of the country, but I do not agree with this. I am witnessing this up close and I see that everyone is busy working hard. Everyone is working within the scope of their capability. Scientific and research groups, social activists, and executive and judiciary officials are all busy working in different ways. Allah the Exalted will bless all these endeavors and will help the nation get through this difficult pass, safe and sound and with honor, God willing.

As for the slogan of the year, the year 1398 was the year of boosting production and I will tell the Iranian nation that this slogan was welcomed in practice. In the beginning, experts welcomed it, saying that production was the main criterion, but it received a warm reception in practice as well. According to reliable reports that I have received, the production of the country moved forward. Some of the factories that had stopped working and that had closed down returned to work and in the case of those which worked below their capacity, they increased their capacity. Knowledge-based companies entered the arena and various organizations made good endeavors as a result of which, production was boosted.

The issue of research which is the fountainhead of production was seriously pursued in the country and we witnessed instances of that. Well, these tasks have been carried out in the country and it is not the case that no work has been done. However, what I want to say is that what has already been done is not even one-tenth of what the country needs. Of course, “one-tenth” is not a hard statistical figure, but I estimate it to be around one-tenth. This means that we need to do ten times more work – including research, work related to production and various other tasks – so that boosting production can exert its effects in the lives of the people.

In the year 1398, production was roused and it moved forward, but its effects in the lives of the people were not yet tangible. We should make production reach a point where it can influence the people’s lives. Of course, the economic issues of the country are many. There are issues such as reforming the banking system, the customs regulations, the taxing system and improving the business environment and other such issues, but the role of production is a unique and peerless one.

Considering the large market that exists inside the country, if we manage to boost production, the main activity will be in our domestic market with our eighty-million population, despite the fact that production needs foreign markets. Of course, we can interact with foreign markets as well. If we can move production forward, God willing, economic problems will definitely come to an end and the sanctions that they imposed will prove to be to our advantage.

Of course, they have inflicted some damage until now, but they have also generated profits as well because they have made us think about our own resources, about manufacturing products and about satisfying the needs of the country through relying on domestic resources. This is very valuable to us and by Allah’s favor, it will continue. Therefore, we continue to need production.

Last year’s slogan was “Boosting Production”. This year, I want to say that we need a further surge in production - as the slogan of the year. This year is the year of “Surge in Production.” This is the slogan of the year. Officials should act in a way that production will witness a surge, God willing, and that there will be a tangible change in the lives of the people.

Of course, this requires planning. The Planning and Budget Organization, the Islamic Consultative Majlis as well as its research center and the judiciary branch have a role, each in a different way. The judiciary branch has a part to play as well. Knowledge-based companies and young and innovative organizations, which are thankfully large in number, have a role to play as well. Throughout the year – the year 1398 – and the year before that, I had very good and valuable meetings with some of them. I saw them and listened to them up close. They are youth who are interested in working and who are really hopeful, energetic, motivated, talented and creative. Such groups of people thankfully exist and they should participate in planning. This task should move forward with planning, God willing.

May all of you have a happy new year and a happy Eid ul-Mab’ath. I hope that you will receive Divine attention and that the Iranian nation will increase its spiritually and strengthen its spirit of paying attention to God and supplicating to Him on a daily basis.

Specter of Oil in Triple Digits

U.S. blindly(کورکورانه, without seeing, To deprive of sight) accuses (متهم کردن, blame, point the finger at) Iran; Sen. Graham urges attack on Iran’s oil facilities 15 structures at world’s largest oil processing plant damaged Analysts: Abqaiq attack worse than Iran closing Strait of Hormuz

The oil market will rally by $5-10 per barrel (بشکه, tub, container, drum) when it opens on Monday and may spike (point, spear, خنثی کردن، عاطل و باطل کردن، عقیم گذاشتن، چوب لای چرخ گذاشتن) to as high as $100 per barrel if Saudi Arabia fails to quickly resume (recommence, start again, continue) oil supply lost after attacks over the weekend, traders and analysts said.

Attacks on two plants at the heart of the kingdom’s oil industry (صنعت, manufacturing, production ) on Saturday knocked out(دور از، بیرون از، در فاصله از، خارج از, unconscious - not conscious; lacking awareness and the capacity) more than half of Saudi crude(هر چیز خام یا ناپرورده، نفت پالایش نشده, in a natural or unrefined state, basic, simple, rough and ready ) output, or 5% of global supply.

Industry sources have said it may take weeks to bring production fully online.

Bob McNally of Rapidan Energy told Reuters crude prices would spike by at least $15-20 per barrel in a seven-day disruption(شکست, اختلال, disturbance, trouble, disorder, an instance of sudden interruption)scenario and go well into triple(سه گانه, Consisting of three parts or members, threefold) digits in a 30-day scenario.

"This does not include what are likely to be large (if difficult to model or predict) premia to reflect zeroing out of global spare(یدکی, قصور کردن، کوتاهی کردن , injuring, destroying, or killing, auxiliary ) production capacity amidst(در حین، در بحبوحه ی, درمیان, in the middle of; among) ongoing disruption risks, hoarding(انباشتن، ذخیره کردن, احتکار , sign, notice ), and panic(وحشت, terror, fright ) sentiment (تمایلات, feeling, reaction ).”

"The outage of 5 million bpd (barrels per day), roughly half of the current Saudi production level and about 5% of global supply, is very large by historic standards.

Salutation to the Immortal Martyrs of Karbala

Salutation to the Immortal Martyrs of Karbala

"O Aba Abd-Allah, your martyrdom(شهادت, the sufferings or death of a martyr) was a great calamity (فاجعه, مصیبت , (kəˈlæmɪtɪ), disaster, tragedy, mishap, catastrophe, an unfortunate accident) and the cause of great distress(زجر, suffering, sorrow, misery) for us and all followers of Islam! It was a tremendous (فوق العاده, wonderful, fabulous) calamity (catastrophe, misfortune, فاجعه) that befell (فرود آمد. happen, occur) the heavens and which affected all the denizens (den·i·zens, a habitual visitor to a place) of the heavens! May Allah’s curse (annoyance, bother, لعنت) be on those who instituted a regime of wrongdoing (خطا, bad behavior, illegal behavior, unlawful activity) and injustice against you Ahl al-Bayt! May Allah’s curse (لعنت, bother, nuisance, annoyance) be on those who sidelined (حاشیه, unimportant, withdrawn, suspended, دریغ داشتن) you from your rightful station and withheld (خودداری کردن از, suspended, out of action) from you the status that Allah had assigned you! May Allah’s curse be on those who slew (زمان گذشته ی : slay, (تعداد کثیر، مقدار زیاد, slay, kill, move backward and forward, go around ) you, and may His curse be on those who paved the way (هموار راه , to cover a surface with a flat, uniform material such as leaves or flowers) for them making it possible to wage(pay, income, دستمزد) war against you! Before God and you, I repudiate (reject, deny, not accept, رد) them, their supporters, their followers and those who befriend(برخورد, make friends with, look after) them!

The above is the opening passage of the famous Ziyarat-e Ashura that the faithful recite (تلاوت, narrate, declaim, speak publicly) on the 10th of Muharram every year to salute(سلام, greeting, salutation ) in the proper way the Chief of Martyrs, while commemorating (بزرگداشت, celebrate, remember, memorialize, honor ) history’s most heartrending(دردناک, tear-jerking, painful, distressing) tragedy.

Imam Husain (AS) needs no introduction (foreword, opening, preface, beginning, overture). The above passage is proof of his immaculate (معصوم, clean and tidy, perfect) pedigree (شجره نامه، نسب نامه، تبار نامه, full-blooded, family background) – exalted (متعال, high, glorious) by God Almighty and protected from the least form of uncleanness (ناپاکی , toxic waste, dirt), as ayah 33 of Surah Ahzab says:

"We have desired to remove all uncleanness from you Ahl al-Bayt and keep you thoroughly purified(خالص, cleanse, disinfect ).”

Yet despite his impeccable ( بی عیب, faultless, perfect) credentials(اعتبار, qualifications, certificate),he was martyred in the most cruel and brutal(وحشیانه, atrocious, cruel, evil ) manner by persons who very well knew his prime position as the pivot(محوری, revolve, turn, spin around) of Islam.

Why? The answer is simple. Imam Husain (AS) refused to acknowledge the illegitimate (نامشروع. unlawful, illegal, illicit) rule of the impious (بی دین. sinful, immoral) and ungodly(بی دین, irreligious, irreverent, impious ) tyrant(ستمگر, dictator, oppressor), Yazid ibn Mu’awiyya, who was masquerading(secret, masked, veiled ) as caliph of Muslims, even though he openly rejected any belief in Islam.

Then, who made him the ruler, and how come the majority of the so-called Muslims of those days yielded (عملکرد, give way, capitulate, give up ) to his Godless rule?

Good questions indeed (به درستی که, certainly, in reality), which are relevant( ) to our own times, when persons pretending (وانمود, make believe, imagine ) to be Muslims and hailed(درود، سلام, فراخواندن، صدا زدن, call, call over) as such by the Zionist-controlled western press, are behaving in the manner of Yazid and the Omayyads by betraying(به دشمن کمک کردن، خیانت کردن , revealing, telling ) the Islamic cause, massacring (کشتار, killing, mass murder, slaughter, butchery) Muslims, destroying the lands of the believers, and desecrating (damage, vandalize, violate, بی‌حرمتی کردن به) the holy shrines.

Of course, there is the Avenger for the sacred (holy, blessed, revered, مقدس) blood of Imam Husain (AS). And He is God Almighty as we read in the Ziyarat-e Ashura. His instrument of bringing to justice the killers of the Prophet’s grandson and those who endorsed (authorized, certified, allowed), and still continue to endorse his killing, is the Awaited Saviour(نجات دهنده، ناجی، منجی, rescuer, redeemer, deliverer, defender, guardian, protector, liberator) of mankind.

When Imam Mahdi (AS) appears, along with Prophet Jesus (AS) to establish the global government of peace, prosperity (شکوفائى، رونق, wealth, success ) and justice, all traces (راه برگزیده شده، مسیر, sketch, draw, outline) of corruption(فساد، تباهی, dishonesty, sleaze) and oppression(ستم, domination, cruelty ) will vanish(ناپدید, disappear, evaporate ) from Planet Earth.

In the meantime, we continue to commemorate (خاطره‌ی کسی را گرامی داشتن, honor, memorialize) the martyrdom of the Chief of Martyrs and salute him with a worthy salutation(greeting, welcome, سلام و درود) on the Day of Ashura, as was taught to us by his grandson, Imam Muhammad al-Baqer (AS), who was present in Karbala as a 4-year old boy.

Here is a thought-provoking

"O Aba Abd-Allah! I make peace with those who are at peace with you and will make war against those who are at war with you, till the Day of Resurrection(رستاخیز, renaissance, rebirth, revivification ). May Allah’s curse be on the clan (قبیله, tribe, relations, people) of Ziyad and the clan of Marwan! May Allah’s curse be on the generality (کلیت, generalization, simplification) of the Umayyads! May Allah’s curse be on the son of Marjanah! May Allah’s curse be on Umar ibn Sa'd! May Allah’s curse be on Shimr! May Allah’s curse be on the lot who saddled and harnessed their mounts and patrolled the land for the battle against you! Dearer than my father and mother, your martyrdom has caused me great sorrow! I beseech (التماس, beg, demand, request, implore ) Allah, who has honoured you with your station and honoured me through you, to enable me to avenge(انتقام, punish, even the score, get you back ) your blood with the God-aided Imam from the Family of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and his Family! O Allah, make me eminent (برجسته, well-known, important) with You in the world and the Hereafter (آخرت, after this, henceforward, in future) through Husain, peace on him.”

Kian, Jet-Powered Precision Drone, Unveiled

Kian, Jet-Powered Precision Drone, Unveiled

Iran on Sunday unveiled (reveal , show پرده برداری) a jet-propelled drone (an aircraft whose flight is controlled from the ground) it said is capable of finding and attacking targets far from the country's borders with precision (accuracy, carefully, precision, accurately, careful, resolution دقت).

Dubbed the Kian, the unmanned بدون سرنشین aerial vehicle was designed, produced and tested by experts of the air defense force within about a year, said the head of the force.

The drone comes in two models capable of surveillance (نظارت inspection, going over, examination, continual observation of a person or group, especially one suspected of doing something illegal) and reconnaissance(شناسایی investigation, inspection, exploration) missions and continuous flight for precision (accuracy, exactitude, correctness) missions.

This drone can undertake (assume, take on, انجام, carry out) any drone missions we entrust(commend, entrust, واگذار) it with... it can fly more than 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) and find its target with precision, .

The newly launched UAV can carry different munitions and can climb to an altitude of 5,000 meters (15,000 feet), according to state television.

This unmanned aircraft is capable of hitting targets far from the country’s borders and undertaking air defense from the enemy's territory.

The unveiling comes at a time of rising tensions with the United States, which have escalated(rise, shoot up, go sky-high, تشدید) since last year when U.S. President Donald Trump withdrew from a 2015 nuclear deal with Iran and reimposed sanctions(restriction, اقدام قهرآمیز از سوی چند کشور علیه کشوری , تحریم).

Iran shot down a U.S. Global Hawk drone with a surface-to-air missile in June for violating (نقض, disobey, go against, abuse) its airspace.

Deputy Defense Minister Brigadier General said Iran has come into possession of advanced laser cannons - with a U.S.-based expert suggesting the West should not discount the possibility of the Islamic Republic deploying  استقرار increasingly sophisticated weapons systems in the near future.

Iran has obtained the technical know-how to manufacture and utilize advanced cannons (big gun, field gun توپ) using high-power laser beams پرتوهای.

Laser is being used in artillery systems for two purposes, and could help increase the volume of fire, mobility تحرک and precision.

Iranian military forces are employing laser technology in preparing artillery systems, launching artillery توپخانه ammunition مهمات, and in radars, which will accurately detect (  تشخیص notice, become aware of, distinguish), track and hit پیگیری و ضربه the hostile targets.

He also said Iran had developed homegrown weapons with the laser technology, with the country’s military in possession اختیار داشتن of laser-powered weapons capable of annihilating نابود stealth مخفیکاری aircraft.

Iran is using the laser systems to protect its critical and vital حیاتی centers, adding that Iranian military experts were on the cutting edge of laser technology.

A member at the Washington-based Middle East Institute told Express.co.uk "Iran’s missile capabilities are good". They have invested (spend, devote, empower, Supply,  سرمایه گذاری) in these recently, largely out of necessity.

He pointed out that Iran’s military had recently down a U.S. military drone with equipment developed by its own scientists.

The incident was evidence that Iran was increasingly confident in asserting itself in the Middle East, Vatanka said.

Whether their claims are true, and nobody knows for sure, the fact is that the perception in the region is that Iran downed a U.S. drone and the U.S. did not respond.

Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)’s navy Rear said the country’s navy has developed a weapon to beat the American anti-drone laser weapon system.

Deputy director of foreign policy at Washington-based think tank Brookings Institution Suzanne Maloney told Sky News attacks such as the one which saw Iran shoot down the U.S. drone were likely to become more commonplace (عادی ordinary, everyday, routine).

Some Proverbs

This is a list of popular English proverbs. Proverbs are also known as sayings. Proverbs give some form of life advice. Every language and culture has them, and many proverbs exist in more than one language. It is important not to miss any of the words in most proverbs because the meaning can be lost if even one word is changed or left out. This list of English proverbs includes definitions and examples, and is meant to improve English vocabulary and English cultural knowledge.
