EATING FRUIT...
Error! Filename not specified.

It's long but very informative

مطلب طولانی است اما بسیار مفید است

We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits,

cutting it and just popping it into our mouths.

It's not as easy as you think.

It's important to know how and when to eat.

10 Commandments for Success in Life

Here are ten points gleaned from the writings of Sri Swami Sivananda, which can lead any individual towards success in their chosen path in life. These guidelines have the power to benefit you - physically, mentally and spiritually.

1. Have a simple and unassuming manner of life.

2. Live not to eat, but eat to live.

3. Bear no envy. Commit no slander. Speak no falsehood. Practise no deceit. Harbor no malice. You will be ever joyful, happy and peaceful.

4. Righteousness is the rule of life. Lead a virtuous life. Strictly adhere to Dharma. Human life is not human without virtues. Study the lives of saints and draw inspiration from them.

5. Cultivate a melting heart, the giving hand, the kindly speech, the life of service, equal vision, and impartial attitude. Your life will, indeed, be blessed.

Foods to fight...heart disease

High blood cholesterol is a major risk factor for heart disease, but several foods can help reduce levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol or boost levels of HDL (good) cholesterol:

  • Fruit and vegetables contain vitamins and phytochemicals that help prevent the oxidation of cholesterol, which reduces the chance of it being deposited in the arteries.
  • Beans, pulses and porridge oats contain soluble fibre, which encourages the body to excrete cholesterol before it can be absorbed into the bloodstream.
  • Nuts help increase levels of HDL cholesterol, as does oil-rich fish, whose omega-3 fatty acids also help to protect the heart by making the blood less sticky and likely to clot. They help to reduce the risk of heart disease, too, by encouraging the muscles lining the artery walls to relax, improving blood flow to the heart.
  • A review of studies that looked into the relationship between tea-drinking and heart disease found that people who drank three or more cups a day were 11 per cent less likely to suffer from a heart attack.
  • Recent studies have shown that eating 25g soya protein a day can lead to a 10 per cent reduction in both total and LDL cholesterol.

The Children’s Food Pyramid

food pyramid

food pyramid

The children’s food pyramid is a lot more accessible for children because it explains things by using colors and geometric patterns. It also graphically explains things by the use of fat and thin. For instance on the children’s food-pyramid that are large sections for fruits and vegetables and grains. These sections start as being quite thick at the bottom of the pyramid and as you go up into the food-pyramid and up through the sections they become extremely thin. This is to say that although an Apple is good for you as a fruit, if you put it into a high with lots of sugar on then it will become less good for you so you should eat less of it.

Jam Filled Butter Cookie

Jam Filled Butter Cookie
Recipe By: Bahar

About this Recipe:
Bahar: Very delicious, quick and easy to make. A great choice of cookie for Norouz or your afternoon tea parties. I found the original recipe on allrecipes; Missi, who submitted the recipe, claimed that it is her favorite cookie. I baked it and since then it is one of my own favorite cookies too. Bake in huge batches since they will be gone very fast.

Main Ingredients:

Butter: 1/2 cup (softened)
Sugar: 1/3 cup
Egg Yolks: 1
Vanilla: 1/3 tsp
All-purpose Flour: 1+1/3 cup
Fruit Jam: 2-3 tbsp (any flavour)

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 375 F.

2. Sift the flour, set aside.

3. In a medium-size bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in the egg and vanilla.

4. All the flour to the creamed mixture a little bit at a time and mix well until a soft dough forms. If the mixture is too soft, cover and refrigerate for about an hour.

5. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll dough into 1 inch balls. Place balls onto the baking sheet 1.5 inches part.

6. Make a well in the center of each cookie, using your finger or an instrument of similar size. Fill the whole with jam*.

7. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until cookies are golden brown on the bottom. Remove to wire racks to cool.

*To easily fill the holes with jam: take a sandwich/freezer bag or and spoon the jam into the bottom of the bag. Make a small snip in the bottom of the bag and squeeze out the jam into the holes in the balls

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 Cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened, plus more for pan
  • 3 Cups sifted cake flour, (not self-rising), plus more for dusting
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoons baking soda
  • 3/4 Teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 Teaspoon salt
  • 1 Teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 very ripe, large bananas, mashed (about 1 1/3 cups)
  • 3/4 Cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 Teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 Cups packed light-brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 Cup chopped pecans, optional
  • Fluffy Chocolate and Yellow Buttercreams
  • 2 black-licorice drop candies
  • Black-licorice rope, for decorating

What’s Next:

Preheat oven to 350 F or 175 C. Butter and flour an 8 1/2-inch-diameter 3-quart stainless-steel or ovenproof bowl and 1 cup of a large (1-cup capacity) muffin tin; set aside.

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together bananas, buttermilk, and vanilla.

In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine butter and brown sugar; mix on medium-high until pale and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Mix in eggs. Reduce speed to medium; mix in flour mixture in 2 batches, alternating with banana mixture. Stir in pecans.

Fill prepared muffin cup three-quarters full. Transfer remaining batter to prepared baking bowl. Transfer to oven, side by side. Bake cupcake until a cake tester comes out clean, about 30 minutes. Let cool in tin on a wire rack. Continue baking large cake until a cake tester comes out clean, about 1 hour and 10 minutes more (1 hour and 40 minutes total). Let cool in bowl on awire rack 30 minutes. Invert bowl to remove cake; let cool completely.

Trim flat side of cake to be level. Trim away top of cupcake to be level. Cut cupcake in half vertically for the two monkey ears. Cut bowl cake in half horizontally to make 2 layers. Spread 3/4 cup chocolate buttercream on top of flat layer. Top with domed layer. Transfer to a cake plate.

Spread a thick layer of chocolate buttercream over entire monkey head. Spread buttercream over cupcake ears. Attach ears to sides of head, top of cupcake facing forward, securing with toothpicks.

Place remaining chocolate frosting in a piping bag fitted with a small plain round tip (such as Ateco #5). Pipe dots around bottom edge of cake in a continuous line. Switch to a small multi-opening tip (such as Ateco #233); pipe hair on top of head.

Fill another piping bag fitted with a large plain round tip (such as Ateco #11) with yellow buttercream. Pipe an oval near the front base of cake.

Fill in with frosting, and smooth. Place 2 small pieces of licorice rope inside for nose. Add a long piece of rope for mouth. Place licorice drops above oval for eyes. Pipe yellow half-circles in centers of ears; fill in with frosting, and smooth. Decorated cake can be refrigerated up to 3 hours.
